I Inveighed against this national origins theory a way back in 1924. I made a speech then against this theory. It is as clear as the sun that the majority of the Immigration Committee and most proponents of this measure like the gentleman from Kansas [Mr. Tincher]. who blurted out his true feelings while talking on the bill. do not want the wops." "dagoes." "Hebrews." "hunkies." "bulls." and others known by similar epithets. Just so. in 1840. 1850. and 1860. you did not want the "beery Germans" and "dirty Irish." The Germans and Irish were mongrels. selfseekers. disreputable. and would not assimilate.
