Session #89 · 1965–67

Speech #890112127

Even more tragic are the shocking instances. to which this century has too often been a witness. of conscious efforts directed by totalitarian regimes to destroy entire minority groups. Such is the deplorable situation which now exists in the province of Transylvania located near the RumanianHungarian border. Hungarian sources have documented as many as 278.000 cases of the outright murder or deportation of Hungarians during the last decade. In the early years of Communist rule. a good deal of the injustice suffered by the Hungarian minority was part of that inflicted upon all who refused to bow to Communist tyranny. Today the situation is less ambiguous.
