Session #89 · 1965–67

Speech #890091818

Mr. Speaker. I have long believed that the great contributions to the growth and development of the United States made by the Mexican immigrant ought to be formally recognized by the Federal Government. that such recognition should be in concrete form in the nature of a permanent monument. and that the ideal location would be the city of San Antonio. Tex. San Antonio has been a gateway to and from Mexico for centuries. Today It is perhaps the largest bilingual city in the Nation and a confluence of the Anglo and Latin American cultures. In 1968 San Antonio will celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding.
