Bleymaier. Jr.. a Texan whom I had the privilege of knowing when we attended the University of Texas. Joe Bleymaier grew up in Austin. the son of German immigrants. and distinguished himself as an outstanding athlete and academic scholar. He has frequently returned to Austin over the years to visit with his many friends. who know him as an effective. hardworking. hardnosed "Dutchman" who likes people and is dedicated to the responsible duties of his space job. We can all take pride in the devoted. determined spirit of this great military leader from Texas who has done so much to bridge the space gap and to hasten our Nations first voyage to the moon.
