Session #89 · 1965–67

Speech #890075443

Senator OLIN JOHNSTON was a member of the Judiciary Committee of the Senate which afforded me. as a member of the Judiciary Committee of the House. the opportunity to come to know him well. At all times he was kind. considerate of his colleagues point of view. understanding of the complex considerations which enter into Federal legislation. and always mindful of those principles which are the foundation stones of our representative form of government. Senator JOHNSTON as a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee also served as a member of the Joint Committee on Immigration and Nationality Policy. In this capacity I had the additional privilege of discussing with him the many problems which the Congress must face in this vital area of national policy. His concern was always what served best the interests of the people of our country.
