A companion bill. H.R. 423. has been Introduced in the other body by the distinguished chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. the gentleman from New York . The bill authorizes. over a 3year period. the issuance of approximately 10.000 special nonquota immigrant visas to Dutch nationals displaced from Indonesia and West New Guinea by the extreme nationalism of the Sukarno regime. Only those Dutch refugees residing in continental Netherlands at the time of the bills enactment. would benefit from this legislation. They would! be found eligible for issuance of immigrant visas. and admitted to the United States. under the provisibns of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Mr. President. nearly 40.000 refugees remain unsettled in the Netherlands. They include some 2.500 persons whose applications for admission under previous legislation. Public Law 85892 and Public Law 86648. were n6t processed fully before the acts expired on June 30. 1962. They also include persons who had not reached the Netherlands from Indonesia before enactment of the previous legislation. and the recent arrivals from New Guinea. Several thousand DutchIndonesian refugees were admitted to the United States under the public laws just mentioned. Many others were resettled in .Australia. Canada. and countries in Latin America.
