The George Washington Honor Medal was voted Mrs. Lashley by a distinguished national and school awards jury of the Freedoms Foundation for "an outstanding accomplishment in helping to achieve a better understanding of the American way of life." Mrs. Lashleys stirring peom is even more significant when it is realized that she is the daughter of struggling Austrian immigrants. Her father. a court clerk in Austria. and her mother came to this country late In the last century and lived in New York. where Mrs. Lashley was born. then Hartford.
