President. I was not present today when a group of Senators. headed by the Senator from Florida and the Senator from California . talked about the migratory labor problem that confronts us as we approach the planting. and soon. the harvest season in those particular agricultural crops known as row crops and fruit crops. Some weeks ago. it was suggested that I should arrange for two breakfast meetings of Senators who come from. the States that are particularly affected by the critical migrant labor problem. for a discussion of the position taken by the Department of Labor. the Department of Agriculture. and the Immigration Service in regard to the need for migrant workers. I arranged those breakfasts. The outcome was the appointment of a subcommittee. headed by the Senator from Florida . to meet with the Senator from Louisiana [Mr.
