Those evil passions are not yet dominant. but they are still strong in our society. think. then. of what we may be losing now whenever they are allowed to prevail. This is not a mere theoretical proposition suitable to a textbook on ethics. but remote from the daily lives of businessmen and housewives. It Is an intensely practical matter. demanding immediate attention and prompt action. on pain of loss and peril to an extent that no one can compute. It is far indeed from being confined to our immigration policy. Ignorance. prejudice. and superstition are riding hard. riding with whip and spur. through many phases of our national life. Not in the faces of aliens alone are we slamming the door of opportunity.
