According to our friends in farm placement service. its going to take a lot more than promise of more pay to attract any appreciable number of migrants to California. Apparently we have a lot to learn about just what types of people we are dealing with in the socalled migrant farmworkers. It looks as though they are not the desperate types that fled the Dust Bowl a few years back. Many own small farms of their own and simply refuse to go long distances to harvest strange crops. High wages will not solve the whole problem. We have a real complex problem that has been completely misunderstood and badly managed by the people who thoughtlessly and stupidly kicked the bracero program in the head.
