The second would depict Castle Clinton as the last of a series of forts which. from the time of the Dutch settlement in 1624. guarded lower Manhattan. and was headquarters of Gen. Winfield Scott during the War of 1812. the 150th anniversary of which is now being observed. The third would depict the American Museum of Immigration now being constructed so as to complete the base of the Statue of Liberty National Monument. which will tell the story of the making of the United States by those who have come to our shores from all over the world. The bill calls for a total issue of no more than 765.000 medals. to be issued over a period of 10 years. It is expected that they will be sold at the New York Worlds Fair in 196465. and at the three national historic shrine sites. and thereafter. through various other outlets for the benefit of the continuing operation and maintenance of the shrines.
