Mr. President. early in June the Judiciary Subcommittee on Refugees and Escapees. of which I have the honor to serve as chairman. issued its annual report on world refugee problems. Included were specific recommendations on the Cuban and Chinese refugee problems. on U.S. immigratidn policy toward unsettled refugees. and on a global approach to the problem of refugees from communism. Additional comments were made on other refugee situations. A section on the Arab refugee problem reviewed briefly the current situation. stated the urgent need for continuing responsible efforts to seek out a solution to the problem. and acknowledged the diplomatic missior. for this purpose by Dr. Joseph E. Johnson. president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. and until earlier this year a special representative of the United Nations Conciliation Commission for Palestine of which our Government is a member.
