Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880050209

He will be greatly missed in this House of Representatives. He was a very able legislator. he was a distinguished parliamentarian. and he was a great American. He has left to us as a testimonial of his effective service many sound laws in many fields. But he will probably be remembered in history for two major efforts: his cosponsorship of the McCarranWalter Immigration Act and his chairmanship of the House UnAmerican Activities Committee. For his exceptional work with this committee. the entire country owes him a debt of gratitude. We have lost a true friend and a distinguished public servant.
