It usurped the right of selfgovernment from the unlucky peoples of Latvia. Lithuania. and Estonia. It encroached upon the freedom of Czechoslovakia. Hungary. and Yugoslavia. Its bloodspattered tentacles turned Poland and Albania into slave states. Mr. President. these are only a few of many examples. The Ukrainian people have suffered greatly under Communist rule. After the peasants refused to join the Sovietestablished collective farms. close to 5 million people died in an enforced famine. Over 2.400.000 Ukrainians were forcibly deported to unknown parts of Siberia. Mr. President. in my State of Pennsylvania there are a large number of people of Ukrainian birth or descent.
