Indeed. just such an assimilation was being achieved by many destitute immigrants who had journeyed to our shores. The key to achieve such full participation in the life of the Nation seemed to lie in education. The father of a Negro family might be an unskilled laborer. the mother might work as a domestic servant. yet these people would have the capacity to raise fine children.
