Mr. Speaker. the mass deportations of the peoples of the three Baltic StatesLithuania. Latvia. and Estoniatook place just 21 years ago this month. These three little countries were the first victims. or the first captive nations. to be subjugated by Moscow. As such. this is a sad anniversary not only for the peoples of those three countries. but for the whole free world. Their suffering and their exile cannot and should not be forgotten by the free world. Their lands have been taken. their culture. religion. and language are being destroyed. their people enslaved. This is the way communism deals with small nations in its efforts to annihilate them and assimilate them.
