It is interesting to me to find some reference to these petitions in one of the publications of the Communist authorities in Latvia. This publication is a newspaper which is sent into this country to Americans of Latvian heritage. It is called "Dzimtenes Balss." which means "Voice of the Homeland." It is typical of redefection material aimed at refugees. displaced persons. and others from behind the Iron Curtain. An editorial in a recent copy of this newspaper states in part: They (successors to the brownshirts) now want the U.S. Government to adopt a law controlling the mails. which would prohibit the distribution of the books and newspapers published in Latvia and thus conclusively disrupt any communication with friends and relatives in Latvia.
