I know through personal knowledge that the large and very active Polish community in San Francisco has done. and continues to do wonders in its efforts to enrich community life in San Francisco. There they are active in social. political. educational. and religious circles. and in every one of these circles they are a boon to our community. Polish residents came to San Francisco soon after 1860. The Polish Society of San Francisco was organized in 1862. one of the oldest in America. San Francisco has over the years been famous in Polish cultural history as the haven of so many refugees from the revolutions in 1848 and 1862. including -the great revolutionary leader. General Krzyzanowski. General Keller who fought with the devoted Louis Kissuth.
