Mr. President. I am introducing. for appropriate reference. a bill to continue the present orphan Immigration program to June 30. 1964. It is my earnest hope that legislation extending the orphan immigration law will be promptly and favorably considered by the Congress. so as to prevent needless hardship and suffering. not only on the part of orphan children but by American families. It is my opinion that the present law requiring a careful investigation by the Attorney General provides sufficient safeguards to prevent abuses and. at the same time. the 88th Congress will have an opportunity to review the continuation of this program.
