Lithuania enjoyed her precious prize of freedom. but a short while before -it was once again" forcefully snatched away at the point of a foreign bayonet. In 1940. the Soviet Union dispatched the Red army into this small nation. Since then the Kremlin has deliberately set out to stamp out Lithuanian culture and to exterminate the spirit of independence. They continue to this day to terrorize the Lithuanian people by oppression. persecution. and mass deportation. We in America are moved with compassion by the suffering our Lithuanian friends have borne over the years. Anniversaries are. for most of us joyous occasions which call for celebration.
