Session #86 · 1959–61

Speech #860273337

Such a bill has been reported. It may not go as far as some persons want it to go. because there are certain patronage considerations which we do not want to go into. I am sure we will act on a liberalization of the immigration laws. The Antarctic Treaty is ready to be acted on now. So if the Senator will help us with the program we have come back to complete. namely. to act upon bills which the House has passed. namely. appropriation bills for the next fiscal year. bills which have the highest priority. if the Senator will help us to pass a medical plan bill. a minimum wage bill. a situs picketing bill. to act on the Antarctic Treaty. and other general measures. then we shall be glad to consider whether or not we should remain in session longer to consider some other items. if it is the will of the majority. and of course the majority can do that.
