Session #86 · 1959–61

Speech #860163331

Mr. Speaker. the decent Dominicans will soon take over the Government of the Dominican Republic. They will need help. For a generation their country has been in the greedy and bloody hands of a fascistic dictator. Many decent Dominicans are refugees. Many other decent Dominicans understandably could not or would not leave their country. Trujillo and his indecent gang are not representative of the Dominican people. They are gentle. Godfearing men and women who deserve at last a government not based on terror and corruption. Recently the Catholic church leaders in the Dominican Republic spoke out courageously in a pastoral letter deploring Trujillos cruelties.
