Session #86 · 1959–61

Speech #860154353

But the freedom of the Ukrainian people was to be short lived. After a 4year desperate struggle with the Russian Bolsheviks. the young Republic was brought down by brute forceand the proud and industrious Ukrainian people were once more subjected to foreign rule. Today. under the name of a "Peoples Democracy." and after a record of mass deportations. forced famines. and other imposed conditions which have shocked the world. the Ukrainian people are bent beneath a yoke which all free men can justly decry. Despite oppression and suppression. however. the spirit of freedom lives in their hearts and souls. The yearning for liberty has not and cannot be quenched.
