Speech #860154341

Mr. Speaker. today we solemnly commemorate the 42d anniversary of the declaration of Ukrainian independence. and I join with my colleagues and freedomloving people everywhere in extending greetings and saluting these heroic people of the Ukraine. As one of the first nations to fall under the tyranny of the Bolshevik imperialists. the Ukrainians suffered the destruction of their churches. mass deportations and purges. manmade famines. and yet they have steadfastly refused to relinquish their national Ideals. They have never given up their courage and determination to promote the cause of democracy. and Ukrainia will be recorded in the worlds history books as a symbol of the struggle for independence and freedom. The spirit of these gallant Ukrainians will stand as an inspiration to the peoples of the world in their labors for justice and freedom.
