These crews serve under a semipeonage system. Their working conditions and living conditions are terrible. Because of these substandard conditions. their contractors are able to undercut the rates of longestablished contractors in the wool growing areas. The living standards and employment of the members of our union who shear sheep are. therefore. critically endangered. These members have lived in the area all of their lives and now find their usual work being taken away by migrant crews from Texas. We are not concerned about the influx of these crews. as such. There are enough sheep to be shorn and competition should hold sway.
