Castro remained in Cuba. continuing his oppositionist activities until July of that year when he went into voluntary exile in Mexico. In October 1955 Castro came to the United States on an organizational and fund raising tour for his 26th of July movement. After speaking in New York. Tampa. and Key West. he returned to Mexico on December 10 after the Cuban Government had protested his frankly revoluntionary activities and U.S. Immigration authorities had cut short his stay. In Mexico Castro declared his intention to invade Cuba if Batista refused to step down. On December 2. 1956. following diversionary activities by his followers ashore.
