Speaker. I have Introduced H. R. 13627. a bill to provide certain visa quotas for Portuguese refugees of the Azores. who were made homeless by recent natural disasters in their country. The bill will permit a number of these refugees to come to the United States. It is in keeping with our historic policy of offering a haven and a refuge to the suffering and the oppressed of other lands. Many of these refugees have relatives living in this country. Many of these fine people reside in my District and State. where they are highly regarded by their neighbors for their honesty. industry. patriotism. and outstanding citizenship. I have unbounded respect and admiration for the Portuguese people.
