Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850242819

It has been cut in the appropriation bill to $185 million. which I believe is too deep when one considers the countries that are to be taken care of out of the fund. Certainly there will be nothing left over for contingencies. The special assistance goes to. among others. the following: West Berlin. Iceland. Ethiopia. Libya. and Morrocco. where we have some of our most important air bases in the world. Tunisia. Sudan. Afghanistan. Iraq. Israel. Jordan. Lebanon. Nepal. Burma. Bolivia. Guatemala. Haiti. the Hungarian refugees. the Algerian refugees. and the worldwide malaria eradication program. That is what the special assistance is programed for. At the committees figure. it is already. you might say. overdrawn.
