In our daily activities we come In contact with many persons bearing Polish names who came to the United States during the last 50 or 70 years. The majority of Americans of Polish ancestry probably belong to that group: the group consisting of first- and secondgeneration Americans. This should not be taken to Indicate that the participation of immigrants from Poland in the growth and development of the United States is confined to the last few generations. The very opposite is the case. The entire history of our Nation. and the record of the early colonization of the New World. contain ample evidence that men and women of Polish blood contributed their toil and talents to the settlement of North America. and to the birth and development of our great Republic.
