Speech #850198262

Benefits of peace to the region would be much more than an end to machinations. With peace. men could channel their energies to an attack on the common enemies of mankind--disease. hunger. illiteracy. With peace. the Johnston plan for the development of the Jordan valley could get under way. with all the hope it holds out for the resettlement of Arab refugees and for the rebirth of the area. Arabs. side by side with the Jews of Israel. could strive together for the progress and prosperity of the Middle East. the glowing possibilities of which Israel has so remarkably demonstrated. It is my fervent belief that IsraelUnited States friendship will continue to steer a steady course through the stormy upheavals of the Middle East. and that we shall eventually be rewarded with the peace we all so ardently desire.
