Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850195526

I shall strive to have the law changed so that it will be freed of Its prejudicial and discriminating features. I want men to come here who will be of good character regardless of the label of their race. creed. color. or place of origin. Character is what you are in the dark. Character Is what you are when no one is watchIng. The opponents of my ideas on immigration are usually those who prate of their better or nobler blood. I say to them--send your noble blood to the market place and see what it will buy. Others who oppose my point of view are those who boast of their family tree and their ancestors.
