Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850194400

Speaking comparatively. about onethird of the total annual figure is set aside for natives of Italy. Greece. Spain. France. and countries of Eastern Europe get tiny quotas. When I speak of Eastern Europe. I mean Poland. Czechoslovakia. Hungary. and I dont mean the Communists. Communists are barred. but there are many nonCommunists who are nationals of these countries. Great numbers of them do not even live in Eastern Europe but are refugees in all parts of the world. They clamor for admission into the United States. As we know. they make good citizensjust as good as the Irish. the English. and the Germans.
