Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850083316

It is my feeling that the United Nations should have sent observers to Hungary at the time of the revolution. and even though access has been denied. the U. N. should have attempted to land some of its personnel in Budapest to observe what was going on. All of that. however. is now water over the dam. The Committee appointed by the United Nations conducted a very careful study. The Hungarian Government. controlled as it is by the Russians. refused to permit the United Nations Committtee to enter Hungary. so that the inquiry had to be made outside Hungary. and testimony was taken from refugees. Nevertheless. the final report is. I believe. accurate and thorough.
