These private agencies are. carrying on many other activities and services of interest to the United States. They constitute a useful channel through which United States agricultural surplus commodities can be distributed to needy people abroad. Over the past several years. thqy have taken on everincreasing responsibilities in moving substantial quantities of these surpluses. They are also active in the fields of technical assistance and refugee resettlement. In the latter field. their outstanding services on behalf of Hungarian refugees is still vividly in mind.
