Mr. Speaker. under leave to extend my remarks in the RECORD. I wish to insert a brief article on St. Joachims Roman Catholic Church in New York. which was founded in 1888 and is sometimes described as the mother church of Italian immigrants. The church is in danger of being demolished to make way for a housing project. A plan is now afoot to save the church edifice and make it part of the new housing community to be established there. Because of its religious and historical value. a movement has also been undertaken to preserve this house of worship as a national shrine.
