Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850016814

I. for one. favor a further extension of this program. so as to enable more young scholars to take advantage of the opportunities which both countries offer. This will enable the American people and the Finnish people to understand each other better. thus creating better relations for all concerned. From past experiences. our Nation could and would be made stronger if we could admit more Finnish immigrants by a liberalization of the present immigration laws. Not the least of our considerations for the Finnish Republic. and its people should be plans for economic assistance to help Finland in developing its natural and human resources. The ultimate development of such resources are indispensable to the future of any nation.
