Session #84 · 1955–57

Speech #840222892

Personally I do not believe that we could ultimately maintain North and South America against a hostile world. or. to put it more accurately. I believe that we would have great difficulty in maintaining ourselves against a hostile world. I personally believe that we cannot afford to lose the 250 million Europeans who are now on the side of freedom. or the approximately 150 million people of Asia who are on the side of freedom. plus the Asiatic neutrals. Therefore. in my judgment. this is a program which would lose both Asia and Europe. I know that it will be advocated on the ground that it will save money and cut expenses.
