Session #84 · 1955–57

Speech #840222875

Mr. President. it was my pleasure last session to join my colleague. the junior Senator from Oregon. in introducing a bill which permitted Mr. and Mrs. Harry Holt to bring eight of these little children to their farm in Creswell. Oreg.. where they will be raised as part of their own family. Surely the other warmhearted citizens of Oregon who want to take these foundlings in and give them the advantages of home and family should not have the opportunity snatched from them by our refusal to extend the refugee relief program. Unless we act quickly. Mr. President. our doors may be forever closed to these children who are partly American and adrift in the country of their birth.
