Miss Parisens essay was winner in the city of New York area contest: AMEIcA. BEAcoN Or HoP As the immigrant boats pull into our harbor. a strange and wonderful sight greets their eyes. for there is a large statue of a woman holding a torch standing in the middle of the water. Why is it there? It is there to welcome these people and to make a promise.
