Ever since then Mr. Howe. and I am sure * I bespeak the thoughts of every member of the Committee on Appropriations. has been a trusted. valued. and competent public servant and of invaluable aid to all the members of the Committee on Appropriations. regardless of which side of the aisle happened to be in the majority at the time. As I pointed out a while ago during the course of the debate on the rule waiving points of order against this bill. the total requests for the Department of State. the Department of Justice. the Judiciary. the United States Information Agency. and Refugee Relief. amounted to $598.169.820. The committee saw fit to cut these appropriation estimates submitted by President Eisenhower to the extent of $56.802.448. In doing so. the committee allowed the amount of $46.794.137 above the current level. $24.258.042 of this money is with regard to the Department of State.
