Israel has made this progress without paying the totalitarian price of slave labor and ruthless pressure. The people of Israel have come from all parts of the world. speaking many languages and representing many cultures. Like the immigrants who came to this country. they have joined in a common endeavor. learned to speak a common language and helped to build a common civilization. This is in miniature a repetition of the great American experiment in creating a civilization out of a wilderness with men and women whose common heritage is their humanity. And. indeed. many Americans have recognized in the people of Israel a spirit that closely resembles that of our pioneers a century ago.
