I merely wish to point out that both groups. in spite of centuries of oppression. have made significant contributions to our way of life. In 1922 the Irish were at last able to break the chains with which England bound them. Mighty England. with its military tradition and powerful Navy. could not hold the fighting Irish. In similar manner the Jews after World War II defied the British edict to restrict immigration into Palestine. Then the world was treated to the spectacle of a handful of Jews. who numbered not 1 million. standing up to an invasion by Egypt. Syria.
