Session #84 · 1955–57

Speech #840100561

I should like to say two things. First. I wish to commend the Senator from Utah for his activities with relation to displaced persons and refugees over the past few years. I agree with him that President Eisenhower has done everything he could legitimately to accelerate the movement of displaced persons who should come in under the emergency legislation. As one who voted to suctain the veto of President Truman of the McCarran Act. and as one who believes the quotas should be revamped and modernized. I hope and trust that the Senator from Utah will continue his efforts in the Committee on the Judiciary on this important subject.
