Session #84 · 1955–57

Speech #840100048

Senator. this is a fascinating subject. and I wish we could take a little more time on it. but I do want to ask you one other question. because you are a distinguished member of the Judiciary Committee. and you. I know. are interested in the Immigration Act as it exists now. and in proposals to change it. I would like to ask whether you feel that our immigration policy is in need of liberalization and change? Senator OMAHONEY. I do. I believe that the recommendations which the President has recommended to the emergency immigration laws should be adopted with some additions. yes. I believe that we should not change the spirit of the Statue of Liberty. The United States should remain the haven of the oppressed throughout the world.
