As days go by. we read in the papers of a flier escaping from Poland. families leaving Lithuania in small boats to cross the treacherous seas. to get away from Communist oppression. Time and again the people of Lithuania. as those of Poland. have had to face and resist invaders from other countries. Their homes have been destroyed. their families separated. churches desecrated. farms devastated by barbaric hordes. Today is no exception. Today Lithuania suffers under the heel of Soviet tyranny. Lithuania has become a vast concentration camp for its libertyloving but helpless inhabitants. Thousands of its people have been deported to distant areas of the Soviet Union. All means are being used to destroy the will and love of freedom of the Lithuanian people. I know these people. however.
