Session #83 · 1953–55

Speech #830195766

I am for the Basques. They are hard workers. and they become good Americans and citizens. There are different points of view. and one holds onto his point of view rather strongly. but I am sure there are some Members of Congress who feel that the present administration of the immigration law is unworthy of the traditions of the United States. We felt that way at an earlier time. we feel that way now. I am happy to see we are joined in that opinion by the President. who made statement after statement. in State after State. that he was going to ask for drastic changes in the immigration law. We are joined by a former President of the United States. by the unsuccessful candidate for the Presidency of the United States. and by. one organization after another. I cannot remember all of them now. but they include Catholic.
