Session #83 · 1953–55

Speech #830194197

Mr. President. I do not know of anyone in New Jersey who wants to go to the sheep ranges. but I am very much concerned about these bills. because it seems to me that both of them violate the spirit of the Immigration Act and discriminate in favor of the people of one nation. against the people of all other nations. and discriminate in favor of a particular industry. as well. I appreciate the position of the Senator from North Dakota. because this is not the first time since I have been a Member of the Senate that I have had to object to proposed legislation of this type. I wish to help the people of the great Rocky Mountain areas where sheep are raised. but I do not think this bill is the proper way to do so.
