Session #83 · 1953–55

Speech #830100652

In summary. let me reiterate that enactment of H. R. 6481 is important to our national security and essential to our position of leadership in world affairs. The humanitarian aspects of this legislation speak for themselves. The political and economic benefits that would accrue to us are equally clear. We have nothing to fear from this legislation on security grounds. Its provisions are fully consistent on this score with the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952. And we certainly need not fear that our employment situation will be threatened. Those who will be admitted will be coming to helpnot hurtwhat is today a booming economy.
