Session #83 · 1953–55

Speech #830028856

Accordingly. you can imagine the enormous task that confronts the State of Israel in finding new employment and new occupations for these thousands of people. It is thrilling to observe the tremendous economic development of Palestine. Agricultural activities were unknown to many Jews for hundreds of years. Only those with a bold pioneering spirit formed the new settlement during the earlier years of Zionist colonization. which has not spread over the entire state. Very few of the new immigrants were trained for agricultural pursuits. An equally small number were prepared for the difficult task of colonization and establishing new settlements. Notwithstanding these great handicaps. the progress in agriculture has been tremendous.
