Session #83 · 1953–55

Speech #830008120

Mr. President. international communism feeds on human suffering and human suffering knows no political boundaries. These truths are evident in the situation in the Middle East where there are today some 1 million Palestinian Arab refugees who have been displaced from their homes by military operations. It is not my province to assign reasons for the dire plight of these million human souls. Proof of the concern of our Nation over this deplorable situation lies deeper than the millions of dollars which we have thus far contributed for the relief of the Palestinian Arab refugees. because with the contributions have gone our compassion and our sympathy as well as our hope for our friends of the Middle East. Mr. President. human suffering has always found a warm response in the hearts and minds of the American people.
